The PC Mii Editor Guide

The Mii feature is one of Nintendo’s cutsiest ideas ever, and most can’t help but be absorbed into a few intense Mii creation sessions. Naturally, like any cutesy Nintendo release, there are fans who really dig the vibe and.. obsess.

Let’s be honest. Creating a Mii using the Mii interface can be fun for a bit, but after awhile - it grows old. Enter the Wiimote Data Management Library, the most efficient way of transferring data saved to a Wiimote to and from a PC.

Once you get your Mii files from the Wiimote over the the PC, then you probably need some fun programs that can make improving your Mii’s easier. There are three decent choices available at the moment, one web based and two downloadable executables.

 Mii Editor
The online Mii editor is aptly named Mii Editor, and is available from MiiEditor.com It is in Alpha development, and only has limited editing capabilities. It does however feature the ability to load/save local Mii’s as well as the capability to view and save XML output. Mii Editor also allows user to generate an image of their Mii, in the Jpeg format.

Mii Editor is currently the best hassle-free PC Mii viewer, and the Jpeg and XML export give a good indication of quality features future versions of the program will offer.

 Wii Mii Editor
The Wii Mii editor, also known as the WiiM!!, is simple but effective. Like the online Mii Editors, Wii Mii is still very much under development. Right now, it can load up your Mii file, and allow you to edit all the variables that make your Mii look unique. Inbuilt viewing of your Mii is not currently available, but expect in future releases.

The WiiM!! interface is simple and easy to understand. To raise an eyebrow, all one has to do is increase the value in the drop down menu. There is no excessive searching to find the variable you are wishing to manipulate, as most are laid out in the first menu.

You can access the WiiM!! editor through its development page.

 AJ’s Mii Editor
AJ’s Mii Editor is a text-based Mii editor that allows you to use tab navigation to make adjustments to your Mii files. It features tab-based browsing for each option. In the short time that I managed to work with a fully functioning version of AJ’s Editor, it was comfortable, easy to navigate experience.

Unfortunately, the program crashed several times on open, and occasionally failed to load at all. Sure, the problem could be at our end, but we do not have problems running most programs. You can check out AJ’s Editor here.

 The Verdict
If you are a Mii enthusiast looking for some hardcore visual editing action on your PC, you will have to make do with the Mii interface to create your… art. At least temporarily. Visual PC Mii Editing utilities are under development, and will soon begin to offer the functionality that Mii enthusiasts are looking for. In the mean-time, pop some fresh batteries into your Wiimote, pull the sofa nice and close to the television, and have yourself a creation session.

 Chewie out!
